Meet Big Freedia: The New Orleans Bounce Star Who Came to Slay in Beyoncé’s “Formation”

There was a lot to take in after Beyoncé debuted the new video for her provocative song “Formation.” So it’s understandable if in between the politically charged imagery and the defiant and empowered lyrics—and let’s not even get started on those dancers in head-to-toe Gucci—you somehow missed the short but major appearance from bounce sensation Big Freedia. At around 1:05, when Bey rolls up in braids and a fur coat, that’s when you can hear Big Freedia’s deep voice in the background. “I did not come to play with you hoes,” she says with an ominous laugh. “I came to slay, bitch.”
